Just a little about me…

Born in NYC, I came from a family of artists, scientists and teachers. This taught me to observe the world around me, be curious, and persistant. I have been creating art for as long as I can recall, teaching it for 30 years.

My training includes…

I discovered yoga 1992 when I wandered into a class taught by Sharon Gannon who with David Life developed Jivamutki Yoga, a vigorous vinyasa style of hatha yoga. I moved to Chicago to complete a masters in sculpture at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. There I discovered Ashtanga yoga, and I went on to study with Richard Freeman, and become a certified Ashtanga teacher. I returned to NYC and dove into its art world, and continued to study yoga to foster inner connection with  Rodney Yee, Peter Rizzo, Amy Ippoliti, who introduced me to Anusara yoga, and then I met Nikki Costello who led me to the Iyengar method.

When I discovered the Iyengar method I knew I had found home. I studied this method for 10 years, did teacher trainings for another 5 years, and went through level one certification. Beyond Nikki, I was inspired by many other knowledgeable teachers and give thanks to Matt Dryfus, Lara Warren, Amy Hamilton, and Nancy Witters for helping me on my way.

My teaching style is…

My teaching is playful, challenging and inclusive. I love to empower students and encourage them to be curious, exploratory and respectful of what they are feeling. To guide them sequentially from the external body toward the light of the inner self.

I care deeply about…

Iyengar’s clear and precise directions resonate profoundly with me; developing deeper awareness, bringing access to balance of the systems. Its sequential teaching, focus on seeing and communicating clearly, and creative use of props providing me the ability to meet students where they are.
