Which class should I take?
If you are new to yoga, the Level 1 class is THE place to start. The 50+ class is another class welcoming of beginners. If those class times don’t fit your schedule, we are happy to welcome you to any or our General Classes. In order to attend the Intermediate classes or the pranayama class we ask that you either have the teacher’s permission or have previously attended classes with a Certified Iyengar Teacher on a regular basis. If you are not sure, please contact us to discuss. Click on the name of any class on our schedule for more information. Click HERE to see our beginner friendly class schedule.
Brand new to yoga? Check out these tips for beginners!
First of all, welcome! We welcome people of all ability levels. If you are looking for yoga for beginners, here are a few tips to help you feel prepared. What to wear, what to wear? Wear comfortable clothes that you can move in. A t-shirt and shorts or leggings that allow you to move are best. Baggy clothes are not ideal is it can be hard for the teacher to see that you are doing the poses safely and accurately. Bare feet are essential and an empty stomach is best. Drinking water during class is discouraged, but you are welcome to bring a water bottle so that you can stay hydrated before and after class. Please be on time. We are in a beautiful setting but just a wee bit tucked away, so allow extra time to find us. If it is your first time to our studio, do your best to show up10-15 minutes before the start of class.
For experienced practitioners new to Iyengar Yoga…
We invite you to come in and experience what Iyengar Yoga has to offer. You are welcome to attend any class on our schedule, except the Intermediate class, which requires teacher permission. If you are new to Iyengar Yoga, it may feel a bit different than other yoga classes you have taken. We welcome new students and encourage you to come with an open mind! Iyengar Yoga emphasizes skillful action. Often times the teacher will be weaving a theme or physical action throughout the class. Staying with the class is key to learning what the teacher is sharing. However, teachers are respectful of injuries and limitations. If you have injuries or limitations please let the instructor know at the beginning of class.
