I feel so fortunate and I want to share why. It is very special that we are able to host senior Iyengar teachers from around the world at our studio here in the mountains of Asheville. It is so amazing that this community is ready for and supportive of this level of instruction. Your participation and enthusiasm for these events makes it possible for us to continue to invite these talented, highly respected and experienced instructors!

The other thing I would like to point out, and I think you all are starting to realize this, is the uniqueness of these teachers. Yes, they are all “Iyengar Certified Teachers” but that does not mean they teach in the same way. Although they have studied with Mr. Iyengar and his family for many years, each of these teachers has something amazing and singular to offer, with their distinct personality, life story, physical abilities, and unique, always-evolving teaching styles. Your own practice benefits greatly when you study with teachers of their caliber, who each bring something distinct to the workshop. I find the variety of teaching approaches inspires me as a student and as a teacher, while also underscoring the many facets of Iyengar Yoga. If you have not read it yet, the point here is similar to what I discussed in the essay about Iyengar yoga that I posted on our website. YOU CAN CHECK THAT OUT HERE.

So far we have hosted Swati Chanchani from Northern India, Mary and Eddy Obendorfer—two advanced teachers who teach together, and Brian Hogencamp, with his youthful and vibrant teaching style. And, look who is coming in July and September! We have Athena Pappas—a long-time practitioner with a beautiful and accomplished practice, and Kofi Busia—a world-renowned teacher who grew up in Ghana, has an amazing understanding of yoga philosophy, a deep fluency with Sanskrit, and an amazing voice for chanting. We are also in conversation with Victoria Austin. Some of you might remember when she came last time to One Center and taught yoga asana with a particular emphasis on therapeutics, plus a Dharma talk about Buddhist philosophy. We are also in discussions with advanced Certified Teacher Gloria Goldberg. Please keep your fingers crossed that she will come and help us round out our calendar.
