Join Us for an Evening of Kirtan with Aphieme
Kirtan is a form of devotional singing that invites us to open our hearts, quiet our minds, and connect deeply through sound. Rooted in the spiritual traditions of India, it is a meditative practice of call-and-response chanting—simple, repetitive melodies that anyone can join, regardless of musical experience.
Led by Aphieme, whose roots in gospel singing have blossomed into over two decades of devotional song, this gathering is an invitation to explore your own voice as a tool for self-study, connection, and meditation. Printed song sheets will be provided, and brief explanations of the meanings behind the chants will be shared.
This is not a performance, it is a group singing experience — no singing experience is necessary. Whether you sing out loud or simply listen and feel, you are welcome. Come as you are, and experience the power of shared sound offered not for show, but as an expression of our highest selves moving into the world.
Pay what you can with our sliding scale tickets: $10-$30. Register here!
About Aphieme:
Aphieme began searching for the "Yoga of Sound" or Nada Yoga leading her to a Classical Indian Music Gurukul in Madhya Pradesh over 4 winters 2016-2020. The school disbanded after Covid, but she has continued studying with a Senior Student from the school consistently since then and weekly online as often as possible. Please see the bio of her teacher here. The Raga studies are extremely strenuous and something was still missing. The same year February 2020 she happened to be invited to a wedding of two fellow devotees on the yogic path at an Ashram outside of Kolkata which led her to a more Bhakti related practice of the Baul. You can read more about one of my main teachers in that lineage here.
